POLICIES and CONSIDERATIONS
Back to the Main Unity Games-XVIII page!
A few things that will make the gaming experience at Unity Games pleasant for everyone:
- The main UG rooms will hold 550 people and there will be plenty of tables for gaming. The emphasis is on social open gaming - so feel free to mix up your table and games throughout the day and interact with the other people in attendance. Although our main focus is generally German/Euro games, feel free to bring other games that interest you.
- We will have a welcome table at the front doors when you arrive which will be staffed. If you have prepaid, you can sign-in and pick up your nametag. If you need to pay, you can do so at this time! Flyers for area resturants and other items of interest will be on this front table.
- Feel free to bring some games! We shouldn't have a shortage of the recent German/Euro favorites, but more games are always a plus. There will be some tables along the wall to place these games and it's a very good idea to mark your game in some way (put in a business card or some such ID in the box so it's easy to identify).
- Treat other people's games with kid gloves. Kind people have brought these games for all of us to play so treat them well, and return them to their proper pile as you found it (we will have tables along the walls for people to place games).
- Kids Policy: - Kids of "gaming" age are welcome at UG events- but please be sure they can manage to keep attentive for the duration of a typical game session. Small babies are also OK (we didn't have any problems last time around with the few small babies and I know those that have them want to be at Unity Games for part of the day!). Toddlers and younger children that cannot be expected to reasonably attentive at the game table are discouraged. There will also be some prototypes and possibly some hard to find games. Please forewarn your kids to treat ALL games kindly - and if a game is of the rare variety, please use extra caution. We don't want the big Unity Games event to be a place for you to drop off your kids for the day - monitor them and ensure that they are treating the place, games and gamers kindly.
- FOOD: The hotel provides breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you bring food, please keep it hidden and inside the room. We get a good rate from the hotel by letting them provide an exclusive food service. You can also go out to the many places in the area for food. If you have food or drink at the game table, please be extremely careful of the game components. Some foods are generally more game-friendly (potato chips, fries and pizza are NOT - they tend to leave gamer prints on game components). Generally dry items like pretzels are usually good. Drinks in bottles (with cap) or other reasonably spill proof containers are very game friendly. Use good judgment here and err on the side of being overly cautious for the sake of the people that bring games (of course if it's your own game - eat what you like around it! :)
- SMOKE/DRINK: We have a strict no smoking and no alcohol policy for the game day. Please observe this - smoking can be done outside the building.
- Selling Games: Leading up to Unity Games 18 there will be numerous games offered for sale or trade by people attending the event. Unity Games events are a great place for gamers to save on shipping costs and deliver their games to other gamers in the area. With that said, there should be no selling of games in the game room, with the exception of the Charity Auction.
- Extra Conference Rooms: In addition to the Main Ballroom, we will also have 3 smaller conference rooms available on the first floor. These rooms will only have room for playing games (there will be no tables around the edge of the room for game storage). One of these rooms will be dedicated as the "Party Game" room, for games that are particularly boisterous or require additional space to accomodate a larger number of players. The other 2 rooms will be for those games that take a longer time to play (more than 3 hours) or those that require a larger table space. Please make sure you come up to the main ballroom and check in at the registration desk before heading off to these rooms.
- Leave things in the hall generally as you found them.
